Stone, light, water. Blue dresses against Lake Como villas. Wide hats, iron railings, colonnades in bright sun. The last frame: eyes closed, face to the sky. Lake Como gives you everything a portrait session needs — old stone, water light, architecture that frames itself — and the challenge is not letting the location swallow the subject. Deirdre held her own against all of it. The session moved through stone steps with clipped hedges, an arched colonnade where side light cut through the columns, wrought-iron lakefront railings with villas behind them, and a final spot with steep hillside views where the afternoon light was going soft. The mood runs from contemplative through playful and graceful to something pensive and nostalgic by the end. The closing frame — eyes closed, face tilted up, hat brim catching the last light — is the kind of moment that happens when someone forgets the camera is there. It wasn't asked for and it couldn't be repeated. All color throughout, because the interplay between blue dress, green hedges, warm stone, and the lake's changing surface was carrying the visual weight. Black and white would have reduced it to shapes, and the shapes alone weren't the point. Shallow depth of field and soft diffused light handled most of the technical work, with side light through the colonnade providing the most dramatic frames. Seven frames from an afternoon in a place that makes portrait photography feel like cheating.
