Nati Miele: Keys
Hands, heels, and hall lighting.

A pianist in white at a grand piano. Ornate halls, pin spots, red and purple light. Wide for the room, tight for the hands. One black-and-white frame that cuts through everything. The venue was a converted hall with a painted ceiling and a field of twinkling pin spots overhead. Nati played through the set without stopping, which meant shooting on the move — circling the piano, dropping low for the angles where the lights reflected off the lacquer, getting in close for the hands and pulling wide for the room. The light kept shifting between warm red washes and cold purple floods, and each change rewrote the mood of the frame completely. Most of the set stayed in color because the stage lighting was doing too much to strip away. One frame went black and white — her silhouette against the pin spots — and it works precisely because everything else is saturated. The contrast makes both versions stronger. Rim light carried most of the technical load, carving her shape out of the dark hall. Fifteen frames made the cut from a night that ran fast. Concert photography is reactive — you can't ask a performer to hold a pose, so every frame is a bet on timing and position. The strong ones land because the energy and the angle lined up at the same moment. The rest are close but not close enough, and that's normal. "That hall's ceiling is insane, right? I remember Nati just losing herself at the piano, and those jewel-toned lights hitting her shoes was a happy accident."
